Welcoming Careers

Overview

Welcoming Careers is a Perth-based initiative aimed at cultivating pathways to meaningful employment and education for people seeking asylum.

Formerly called Careers Kitchen, the program is flexible, to best complement existing employment services, and works alongside other initiatives to bridge service gaps.

Services include:

  • individualised support and mentoring;
  • referrals;
  • addressing skill gaps;
  • interview training; and,
  • post-placement support.

Welcoming is based at The Asylum Seeker Hub (a creative inter-agency response to limited resources across the legal and welfare sector to assist people seeking asylum. Through the collective efforts of CARAD, The Humanitarian Group, Red Cross, Mercy Care, ASSETS, Welcoming Australia and Riverview Community Services, people seeking asylum in Perth can come to one location and access support related to their legal, welfare and psychological needs.)

Alongside the provision of intensive employment mentoring support, Welcoming Careers volunteers cultivate relationships with employers in Western Australia to build a network of organisations across the Perth metropolitan area providing work experience and employment to people seeking asylum.
